Weekend: Museum visit with the kids
A weekend museum visit with the kids is always a hit in our family. So Saturday we went to our favorite museum, which is the Louisiana museum of Modern art. The museum is amazing and I feel like I have grown up there. I used to come there often as a child and when I was 19, I worked there for 2 years.
When I was younger I dreamed of owning an art gallery in New York, so being able to work in an art museum and walk around the halls when it was closed to the public, was pretty close to heaven for me. Now I go there often with the kids and they love it as much as I do.
They love seeing the different collections but what they love the most, is the kids part of the museum. It consists of 3 floors of creative fun, where they can be little artists themselves.
Why a museum visit with your kids is a good idea!
Kids who are exposed to the arts gain benefits beyond just being ”more creative”. A study published in the journals Education Next and Educational Researcher, showed that students who are exposed to cultural institutions, like museums not only have higher levels of engagement with the arts but also greater tolerance, empathy and increased educational memory and critical thinking skills. Kids can have a hard time focusing, unless it involves an ipad or other screen device these days. But I experience a different interaction when we visit museums. It is like they wake up to a wold of new questions and inspiration and I love seeing that.
